Taxi Ranks

There are several taxi ranks in Colchester Town Centre which can only be used by hackney carriages licensed by Colchester City Council.  No other vehicles are permitted to use or park in the rank including taxis from other areas. 

Designated Ranks in Colchester  

  • High Street: 21 vehicles  
  • Head Street: 4/6 vehicles  
  • Osborne Street: 3 vehicles   
  • Queen Street (18.00 to 06.00): 2 vehicles  
There are also private ranks at Colchester Railway Station on both the north and south side of the station.  To use these ranks hackney carriage drivers must have the permission of the landowner and have purchased the relevant permit from them.
