Employee salary

Colchester City Council is a Living Wage employer.

The Council pays an hourly rate which is higher than the National Minimum Wage. The Living Wage was introduced in April 2013, and we are proud to be among the first councils to have adopted Living Wage rates.

Our apprentices are paid the age-based National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage rates without having to complete the first year of an apprenticeship or be over 19 years old.

Salary range

All our jobs have been independently assessed and allocated a salary range suitable for each role. Staff can move up to the top of their pay scale range by annual steps, which we call increments.

Movement is subject to meeting performance goals, which are set annually between an employee and their manager.
