Community
There are many community organisations and businesses that can help you to reduce your environmental impact.
- Find top tips on the Eco Colchester website or Facebook page, along with other useful links to advice that will help you become greener.
- Impact tool can be used by town and parish councils to see the carbon footprint for their area, finding areas of high emissions and giving links to useful resources and tips for acting on this.

Volunteering
You can also get involved with volunteering for organisations in the city to help make a difference to the environment and boost your experience in the environmental field. Some ides are below:- En-Form are an environment charity based in Colchester. They have an environment centre called Colchester LEAF based in Colchester where volunteers help run activities, talks and a cafe. - The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) offer practical sessions in conserving green spaces to benefit wildlife and people, including coppicing trees, mending boardwalks and more.
- Essex Wildlife Trust also offer volunteering opportunities such as conservation work at their nature reserves as well as helping out in their visitor centres and cafes.
- Extinction Rebellion Colchester is a branch of the nationwide environmental group Extinction Rebellion. The group carries out a range of actions to help tackle environmental issues and encourage more action to be taken to combat climate change. Find more on their Facebook page.
- Volunteer Essex list a wide range of volunteering opportunities in Essex on their website, some of which may be linked to protecting the environment.
- There are also volunteering opportunities in the council’s parks and green spaces.
