PUBLISHED: 3 October 2025

The Leader of Colchester City Council, Cllr David King, has joined Colchester and other political leaders in expressing their condolences and support following the tragic attack on worshippers at Heaton Park Synagogue in Manchester.

Cllr King said: “Our thoughts are with the Jewish community in Manchester and across the UK following Thursday's horrific attack on worshippers at Heaton Park Synagogue. On what should have been a sacred and peaceful day, lives were tragically lost and others deeply affected.

“Colchester stands in solidarity with all those mourning and with everyone who simply wishes to live and worship in peace. We send our deepest condolences to the families of the victims and strength to those recovering.

“We want to reassure our Jewish community here in Colchester that we stand with you – just as we do with every community and faith in times of crisis or concern. We are working closely with the police and local partners to ensure everyone’s safety and wellbeing, and to keep Colchester a City of Sanctuary and welcome for all.”
