Colchester is looking merry and bright. Christmas trees are on display, the town is lit with festive lights and Colchester Castle is getting ready to host its annual open evening.

Taking place on Wednesday 11 December, the Castle will be throwing its doors open for FREE and welcoming visitors from 3pm – 8.30pm.

Come along and soak up the festive atmosphere with carols, mince pies, mulled wine and entertainment. Entry to the Castle is free, however there is a small charge of £5 to see Santa and receive a gift.

The open evening also provides a great opportunity to see the Castle’s new exhibition Adorn: Jewellery, The Human Story. Immerse yourself in the stories connected with jewellery and personal adornment spanning over 3,000 years.

The fully stocked Castle gift shop will also be open providing a great opportunity to get ahead on your Christmas shopping. With everything from stocking fillers to exquisite limited-edition jewellery items, there is something to suit everyone on your list! Our Memberships and Resident Pass also provide a great gift, giving unlimited yearly access to the Castle including free events, exhibitions and many discounts.

Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “Christmas at the Castle is a wonderful time of year. With all the sights and scents of festive season, the Castle takes on a new life and is a fabulous place to visit with family. The Open Evening is the perfect time to begin your yuletide celebrations and the team and I look forward to welcoming you and your family to this wonderful evening.”

Visitors to the Castle on the 11 December can park for FREE in any council-owned town centre car park after 3pm. Visit www.colchester.gov.uk/parking for further information.
