Enjoy your summer in Colchester with great parking offers

PUBLISHED: 24 July 2018

Colchester has something for all the family this summer, including great value parking at easy to find car parks to help your money go further.

Whatever you enjoy in Colchester, you’ll get great value parking on every visit. With car parks right across Colchester town centre and near to the shops, museums, Colchester Castle, Castle Park, Firstsite and more, there’ll be one to suit your needs.

The Council have numerous offers for shoppers in its car parks, including £2.50 for 4 hours in Britannia, and long stay commuters can take advantage of all-day parking for £2.50 in Butt Road and £3.50 in St Johns (Monday to Friday).

Or choose all day parking from £2.50 in Middleborough car park Monday to Saturday and only £1 on Sundays in Britannia and Vineyard Street. Deals for shorter daytime or evening stays are also available, including just £2 for an evening out after 6pm in St Mary’s.

Cllr Mike Lilley, Colchester Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Planning, Public Safety and Licensing, said: “We want Colchester to continue to have a thriving town centre, and success relies on good-quality and easy to access town centre parking. We have a wonderful mix of independent and big name retailers to suit every taste and any pocket.

“With our all-year round offers for 4 hours or all-day parking, we are comparable, and on some tariffs much cheaper, than other towns of our size. The fact that some private companies in Colchester charge a much higher tariff price shows that they feel Colchester is a popular destination for shopping, but the Council wants to encourage more people to shop and stay for longer to support local businesses.

“We’re also pleased to be working proactively with local businesses, including the Mercury Theatre, Head Gate Theatre and Colchester Arts Centre to enable their customers to buy discounted parking through the box office. In fact, 24,126 people took advantage of this offer between April 2017 and March 2018.”

Free or low cost parking is on offer for those parking in Council sites to enjoy attractions elsewhere in the borough throughout the summer holidays. From Highwoods County Park to Mersea Island’s waterfront and the Wivenhoe Trail to Dedham’s attractions.

Residents and visitors using any Council car park borough-wide can also choose cashless MiPermit parking by using online or phone payment instead of cash. By using the MiPermit app you have the added benefit of not having to cut a trip short as you can top up your parking without going back to the car. The easy-to-use system can also give optional reminders of when parking time is running out and help guide users unfamiliar with Colchester back to where their car is parked.
