Stairlift Grant (SLG)
What the grant covers
If you are eligible and funds are available, you can get a non-means tested grant for a stairlift. This means that you will not have to contribute towards the cost of the stairlift.
Stairlifts will only be funded if:
- they are needed to access essential rooms and facilities such as a bedroom or bathroom
- the property is suitable for a stairlift and the stairlift is suitable for the disabled user
- funds are available and will not impact on Mandatory Disabled Facility Grant availability
Repaying the grant
If you own your home a charge for the amount over the first £5,000 (the first £5,000 does not need to be repayed) will be placed on your property for a period of 10 years.
This interest free charge is a maximum of £10,000. This is repayable if the property is sold or transferred within that period, after the 10 years the charge is removed.
How to apply
To apply for a grant, you must arrange an assessment with Essex County Council.
They will send an occupational therapist to assess your needs, see if you are eligible and make recommendations on what equipment and adaptations you may need.
