How to guides and information

The following are guidance documents or third-party website links, to help with ongoing learning within a range of different online skills, from staying safe online to online shopping as well as communicating with friends and family. 

At the time of the last page review, all documents and third-party partner links were correct and in working order, please note that sometimes links may break and no longer work, or the process detailed may change slightly due to the ever-changing world of technology. 

Communicating: 

FaceTime

This guide will provide you with guidance on how to set up FaceTime, how to make a FaceTime call and how to make a group FaceTime call, allowing you to interact with family, friends and work colleagues as well as so much more.

Zoom

The aim of this guide is to provide you with guidance on how to use Zoom, this includes creating an account, hosting a meeting, as well as accepting and sending invitations, thus allowing you to interact with family, friends and work colleagues.

WhatsApp

This link opens to the ‘How to get started on WhatsApp Messenger’ page via the WhatsApp website, where you can learn how to use the app, which is a messaging service that uses WiFi. 

Microsoft Teams

The aim of this document is to provide you with the confidence to use Microsoft Teams. This includes downloading and installing the software, creating meetings and joining meetings, as well as sending link invites allowing your family, friends and work colleagues to participate and join you in a meeting.

This link opens to ‘Help Centre’ via the Instagram website, here you can find information and guides on Instagram features, managing accounts, staying safe, privacy and policies via the lefthand side menu.

LinkedIn

This link opens to the ‘We’re here to help’ page via the LinkedIn website, here you can find information and guides on basics, data and privacy, subscriptions, profiles, connections, jobs and other articles. 

Pinterest

This link opens to the ‘All about Pinterest’ page via the Pinterest website, here you can find information and guides about what it is, how to use it, saving and sharing, creating pins and boards, features, tools and setting up your profile. 

SnapChat

This link opens to the ‘Popular Topics’ page via the Snapchat website, here you can find information and guides on using it, snapstreaks, troubleshooting, staying safe, privacy, games, friends, memories and stories.

TikTok

This link opens to the ‘Getting Started’ page via the TikTok website, here you can find information and guides on creating an account, setting up profiles, using it, privacy, safety, log in/out, and troubleshooting. 

Twitter

This link opens to the ‘What can we help you find’ page via the Twitter website, here you can find information and guides on managing your account, using twitter, safety, security, rules, and much more.

Alexa

This link opens to the ‘Alexa and Alexa Device FAQs’ on the Amazon website, here you can find information and guides on everything you need to know on how to use an Alexa, including reviewing and deleting voice recordings, mobile device permissions, making calls and sending messages, as well as linking third-party apps and communications.

Kindle

Also known as a Fire Tablet – This link opens the ‘Fire Tablet Quick Start Guides’ via the Amazon website, here you can find out information and guides on using a Fire tablet including the Kindle, from the list find your device and then click the link to the side of it.

Android devices

This link opens up to ‘How can we help you?’ on the Google Support website, here you can find manufacturer help for your device including – Samsung, LG, Motorola, Pixel, and Xiaomi, as well as information and guides on using, settings, protecting, security and more.

Apple devices

This link opens up to the ‘Apple Support’ page via the Apple website, here you can find information and guides on using your phone, mac, tablet, watch, AirPods, music and TV devices, as well as help with ID/Passwords, troubleshooting and subscriptions.

Apple iCloud

This link opens up to ‘iCloud Support’ via the Apple website, here you can find information and guides on signing into your account, forgotten passwords, system status, set up, storage and back up.

Attend Anywhere for Video Consultations

This link opens to a YouTube video providing subtitled visual guidance on how to use the Attend Anywhere app for hospital appointments you can’t visit in person.

BBC - A beginner’s guide to using computers and the internet

This link opens up to a guidance sheet created by the BBC, titled Getting online > one click at a time. It is a comprehensive, easy to follow beginners guide  explaining how to use a computer, internet, and email.

Google Drive

This link opens to ‘How can we help you?’ via the Google Drive website, here you can find information and guides on how to get started, how to use google drive, managing files, find and recover files, share files, privacy and troubleshooting.

Learn My Way

Learn My Way is a resource that the team use as a Good Things Foundation Online Centre, our centre number is 8006364. The site offers a variety of free online courses where you can practice and develop your digital skills, for example online shopping, search engines, Facebook or completing online forms.  The link opens to the ‘Learn My Way’ page on the Good Things Foundation website.

Microsoft One Drive

This link opens to ‘OneDrive help & learning’ via the Microsoft website, here you can find information and guides on getting started, sharing, syncing, accounts, storage and troubleshooting. 

Emails

Apple Mail

This link opens to ‘Mail Support’ via the Apple website, here you can find information and guides on iOS, Mac and iCloud mail, select the appropriate mail for more details including; scheduling, organising, and sending.

BT Email

This link opens to the ‘BT Email help’ page via the BT website, here you are able to find information on fixing a problem, managing email account, premium email, email security and help logging into a BT email. 

Gmail

This link opens to the ‘Gmail training and help’ page via the Google Workspace Learning Centre webpages, here you can find information and guides on everything you want to know about how to use Gmail. 

Outlook

This link opens to the ‘Outlook help & learning’ page via the Microsoft Support webpages, here you can find information on how to get started, customising, emails, calendar, contacts, tasks, and troubleshooting help.

Sky Yahoo Mail

Sky closed all old versions of their sky mailbox 28/10/2022. This link opens to the ‘What do you need help with?’ page via the Sky website. Here you can find information and guides on accessing, using, updating apps, privacy and security as well as troubleshooting your sky yahoo mail account.

Virgin Media and O2

O2 and Virgin Media merged in June 2021, both the above links will take you to each’s Help & Support page. Here you will find information and guides on accessing, setting up, managing, out of office messages, blocking, searching, filtering, deleting, retrieving, unified mail, address book, delete account and logging out. 

Yahoo

This link opens to the ‘Help for your Yahoo Account’ page via the yahoo! Website, here you can find information and guides on all things Yahoo including account, mail, mobile, subscriptions, finance and more.
