Positive Parking Strategy launched

A five-year plan to support and deliver improved and smarter parking services across the city has been agreed by Colchester City Council.

The Positive Parking Strategy has been developed to support our climate emergency declaration and strategic vision. It includes seeking different approaches to influence motorists’ behaviour to have a positive impact on air quality by reducing congestion and CO2 emissions.

For example, as the strategy highlights, if motorists make one small change to their driving habits once a week it could reduce traffic during peak times helping to improve air quality and reduce congestion and CO2 emissions.

Other innovative measures include changes to payment methods, offers and incentives to support steady numbers of visitors in the town centre throughout the day, as well as improved ways of communicating with customers.

This new strategy also supports the national Positive Parking Agenda, which aims to raise standards, improve communication, encourage innovation, and promote transparency in the delivery of parking management.
