Be part of the change for clean air in Colchester

Motorists are being reminded that small changes to their driving habits can make a significant difference to the city’s air quality.

Something as simple as switching off your engine while stationary can cut pollution by up to 30%, making a big difference to the quality of the air that we all breathe.

As a result of the three COVID-19 lockdowns and ban on non-essential travel, we have recorded lower air pollution across the town – and we want to build on this as the national restrictions are lifted.

Through our CAReless Pollution campaign we are seeking to encourage all drivers to switch off their car engines while they wait in traffic or at the side of the road. We are working with local businesses to develop no idling policies for their employees, suppliers and customers.

We are also making preparations to launch a toolkit of activities for schools once pupils return to the classroom. If you would like to know more or would like your business or school to take part, get in touch via cleanair@colchester.gov.uk. You can also sign up for our e-newsletter on the website.

Be part of the change and switch off every time you wait.
