We Are Colchester updates

At the end of 2019 Colchester was chosen as one of 101 towns who could bid for money from the Governments’ Town Deal (We Are Colchester). In March we received the news that the Government have awarded We Are Colchester £18.2 Million.

We have now confirmed that We are Colchester will deliver:

• digital work hubs in Queen Street
• transformed facilities for young people
• a digital skills hub at the Wilson Marriage Centre
• improving public spaces in the Town Centre
• the restoration of Holy Trinity Church into a community hub
• the first phase in restoring ‘Jumbo’
• the transformation of community facilities in Greenstead
• the accelerated introduction of 5G
• improved walking and cycling links between Greenstead, the University and the Town Centre

This is in addition to the £1 million that we have already been awarded for the makes-overs in St Nicholas Square and the area around The Mercury Theatre and Jumbo.

This means that the total award for Colchester through the Town Deal We Are Colchester is £19.2 million.
