Priorities Outcomes
Tackle the causes of inequality and support the most vulnerable people in Colchester whilst integrating and aligning with other partner resources
  • Working with partners and the voluntary sector to support those suffering from inequalities including refugees, marginalised and vulnerable groups
  • Ensure compliance with the public sector equalities duty
  • Lead, co-ordinating partners, the Community Safety Partnership (CSP) and Colchester Against Modern Slavery (CAMS) work programmes to deliver proactive prevention projects that are designed to reduce crime, enhance safety or improve safeguarding as priorities
  • Implement a neighbourhood health and care approach, utilising the work done through the Heart of Greenstead programme as an example, to work with partners through the Colchester Health & Wellbeing Board to address
local drivers of health so that we can improve outcomes and close the gap between different places and those communities of shared interest most impacted by health inequality.
  • Financial equality and employment advice and support delivered enhancing opportunities for our most vulnerable residents
  • Fit For the Future Active & Wellbeing: Enable a shift in Colchester’s current sport and leisure model to one that is better equipped to improve the wellbeing of communities more broadly. Focus on financially sustainable
options for Leisure World and implement programmes to address barriers to participation in physical activity supported through Sport England investments.
  • Empower our communities, increasing awareness of skills, capabilities and opportunities to enable more local control and agency. Enable a 'Communities Can' approach (Asset Based Community Development) to increase self- efficacy, prosperity and reduce inequality.
  • Delivery of Playparks and Equipment improvements and upgrades across Colchester.
  • Invest in our communities with a fund to support asset ownership, growth, and community led services and initiatives to help more self-sufficiency and local empowerment in readiness for Local Government Reorganisation.
