Electric vehicle charging points

Future plans

We are aiming to apply for funding through the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles (OZEV) using the information we gathered from an EV charging survey we recently carried out.

Our aim is to install a network of charging points in Colchester City Council car parks that cater for both residential areas and visitors first, in order to meet the requirements of the funding application.

A charging network

A number of car parks across the borough are being considered to form a charging network, but site surveys, funding requirements and other investigations will need to be carried out first before any locations can be confirmed.

Essex County Council (ECC) is currently responsible for on-street charging. An application for additional funds may be made by ECC to OZEV to include on-street locations throughout Essex.

We will also be developing our own EV charging strategy with the intention of working alongside ECC and taking into consideration guidance from the Government when their own EV charging strategy is published (due later this year).
