Thunderbirds are go – again!

Following its popular ‘Thunderbirds & Co: The Joy of Puppetry’ exhibition last year, Colchester Castle is thrilled to announce it will be celebrating the iconic TV show’s 60th Anniversary, by hosting a two-day Joy of Puppetry event on 5 and 6 September.

Visitors will be able to take a nostalgic journey through television history and the enchanting world of TV puppetry and view their favourite characters from the past, such as Lady Penelope, Parker, and Brains. On Saturday 6 September, visitors will also be able to enjoy talks and short shows.

Thunderbirds was a popular 1960s puppet-led science-fiction show which followed the Tracy family, a group that embark on daring international rescue missions using their advanced thunderbirds technology.

It was so successful that it has received numerous tv spin-offs, audiobooks, live film adaptions, over the years.

This event will be supporting local charities as part of Invasion Colchester 2025 and is suitable for all ages.

Councillor Lee Scordis, Portfolio Holder for Portfolio Holder for Culture, Heritage and Environment, said: “We’re excited to be able to celebrate this iconic TV show’s 60th anniversary by hosting another Thunderbirds & Co event at Colchester Castle.  Not only will this event be of real interest and joy for fans, families and anyone with a love for the artistry and charm of classic TV puppetry, but it will also be supporting local charities as part of Invasion Colchester.”

Tickets are just £6 per person to celebrate 60 years! Price also includes admission to the Castle, where visitors can enjoy a range of collections and interactives, as well as the new and fascinating Mythical Creatures exhibition.
