Successful applicants to Colchester City Council’s Cultural and Creative Events Fund have been announced.

A funding pot totalling £30,000 was made available to support cultural and creative events and projects across the city taking place between May 2024 and 30 April 2025 – delivering on a priority in the Cultural Strategy for Colchester.

Funded by Colchester City Council with a contribution from the North East Essex Health and Wellbeing Alliance, made in recognition of the huge potential for creativity and culture to positively impact on health, wellbeing and community cohesion, the Fund attracted over 30 applications from a variety of organisations, groups and individuals.

Demonstrating the high level of engagement with culture in Colchester, as well as the breadth of local talent and enthusiasm, these covered the full spectrum of creative endeavour from music, performance, literature and art and crafts to cultural festivals celebrating Colchester’s diverse communities, and events highlighting the city’s unique heritage.

Following an assessment by a panel chaired by Cllr Michelle Burrows, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Heritage at Colchester City Council, a total of 25 events and projects will receive funding – providing residents with the opportunity to come together and enjoy a huge variety of different cultural experiences during 2024, in many cases for free.

Councillor David King, Leader of Colchester City Council, said: “Arts, culture, creativity are part of what makes Colchester so special. The variety and creativity of the projects chosen show how rich our culture is here. This funding helps local talent shine and shows we're serious about supporting our community's creativity and wellbeing. Our congratulations to all involved. We look forward to seeing how these projects can make a difference across Colchester.”
