Colchester City Council Neighbourhoods team took part in another successful Day of Action, working with Essex Police, Essex Fire and Rescue and immigration officials on North Station Road on Wednesday 21 February.
The Neighbourhoods team worked hard to tackle a range of antisocial behaviour issues including littering, fly tipping and graffiti. The team also spoke to residents, listening to their concerns. Thanks to their hard work we managed to:
Essex Police were on hand with their dedicated team as part of a wider week of action to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, in addition to vehicle spot checks at traffic stop points.
Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Waste, said: “This Day of Action demonstrates our commitment to working together with partners to keep Colchester clean and safe for everyone.
“These efforts not only make a visible difference to North Station Road and surrounding area, and make our streets safer for everyone, but send a strong message that littering, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Cllr David King, Leader of Colchester City Council, said “It’s great to see partners coming together to make a real difference in our communities through days of action. By working together, we are able to not only tidy up and perform essential maintenance, but tackle crime and Anti-Social Behaviour, and make our streets safer and more welcoming for everyone.
“We recognise that recent reports of violent incidents across Colchester will have raised concern across the community; but look to reassure residents that these incidents are isolated, and often the result of personal disputes, rather than random acts of violence towards strangers.
“Public safety remains a top priority for the Council, and we are committed to continuing to work closely with the police and other partners, through days of action like today and many other initiatives, to address violence and its root causes.”
This fantastic work is essential to helping the community feel safe and proud of the city they live in. Residents are encouraged to report fly-tipping and other environmental issues through the council's website. By working together, we can keep Colchester clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy!

- Tidy multiple footpaths of weeds and overgrowth
- Clear six fly tipping sites with Fixed Penalty Notices issued
- Clean twenty street name signs
- Scrub graffiti tags from twelve bins
- Remove several bags worth of litter
- Remind businesses of their duties on keeping responsibility areas clean
