Colchester City Council has today opened the public consultation on its proposed New Local Plan, giving people the chance to shape how the city grows and develops over the next 15 years. The consultation runs from 26 November until 14 January.
The Local Plan is a blueprint for Colchester’s future. It sets out where new homes, jobs and infrastructure will go, and how growth will be managed to protect the environment and improve quality of life. This is not just about housing numbers – it is about creating sustainable communities, supporting local services and ensuring development is backed by the right roads, schools, health facilities and green spaces.
By taking part, residents and anyone with an interest in Colchester’s future can influence decisions that will affect everyday life. Your feedback can help shape where new development happens, what standards new homes must meet, how we protect green spaces and wildlife, and how we plan for transport and community facilities. Every response matters and will help ensure the plan reflects what people want for Colchester.
Cllr Tim Young, Chair of the Local Plan Committee, said: “This is one of the most important consultations we will run. The Local Plan will shape Colchester for the next generation, and we want it to reflect the priorities of our communities. Please take the time to look at the proposals and tell us what you think.”
