Colchester City Council acquires properties from Notting Hill Genesis

PUBLISHED: 26 March 2024

Colchester City Council is pleased to announce the successful completion of the acquisition of Five Fields Court and St Edmunds House from Notting Hill Genesis, a prominent housing provider.

The transfer of ownership was finalised on 25 March 2024, marking a significant milestone in the council's ongoing efforts to enhance housing accessibility and affordability in the region, particularly within the framework of the Heart of Greenstead scheme.

The Heart of Greenstead project, supported by £6m Town Deal funding, aims to provide extensive improvements and opportunities to Greenstead, fostering an environment that supports improved health and wellbeing outcomes for local people living and working in the area.

With this acquisition, Colchester City Council expands its housing portfolio and strengthens its ability to meet the diverse needs of residents across the community. The properties, previously owned by Notting Hill Genesis, will now be managed by Colchester Borough Homes (CBH) on behalf of the council, ensuring continuity of services and support for residents.

Residents will not experience any disruption to their rights or living arrangements as a result of this transfer. They will continue to reside in their current homes under similar terms and conditions, and existing agreements, such as tenancy agreements and rent arrangements, will be honoured and maintained by CBH.

Additionally, support or care services for residents will continue without interruption, with existing plans and support/care workers remaining unchanged. Through ongoing communication with residents, Colchester City Council is pleased to report that residents have expressed satisfaction with the transfer of ownership and are optimistic about the prospects for their community.

Cllr Paul Smith, portfolio holder for Housing at Colchester City Council, said: “We are delighted to have completed the acquisition of these properties from Notting Hill Genesis. This milestone represents a positive step forward in our commitment to providing quality housing and improving the lives of our residents.”
