IN THIS ARTICLE

This consultation seeking views on our proposals to ban the keeping of primates as pets and how this ban might be enforced.

Alongside the ban, the introduction of a ‘specialist private primate keeper’ licence for people who keep primates to zoo standards but do not hold a zoo licence is being proposed. Also being proposed are transitional arrangements for existing pet primates that are not eligible for the new ‘specialist private primate keeper’ licence.

This consultation by the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs runs from 12 December 2020 until 6 February 2021.
