Creative youngsters and their families are being invited to make their very own woodland wreaths to brighten up their festive front doors this Christmas.
A woodland wreath-making workshop with Kelly Betts, Visitor Centre Officer, takes place at High Woods Country Park on Thursday 20 December 2018.
The event starts with a forage around the woods to collect foliage to decorate the wreaths. Then, armed with willow rings, pre-made by volunteer rangers, work begins to build the wreaths using festive ribbons and the foraged finds. The construction stage will take place at the outdoor forest school classroom near the Visitor Centre. Hot chocolate refreshment and a small camp fire will be provided to keep everyone warm as the whole session will be held outdoors!
Cllr Tina Bourne, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Communities, said: “This is a great way to encourage families to enjoy the great outdoors this Christmas and use the natural world as inspiration for their festive designs. A handmade, festive wreath hanging on the front door is so welcoming, and this workshop promises to be lots of fun for all ages.”
Colchester Borough Council aims to encourage more families to explore and enjoy its high quality open spaces as part of Better Colchester.
