Colchester Museums have been overwhelmed with the number of entries received for its #LoveColchesterCastle competition on Facebook.

Open to entries from Colchester residents, the competition was launched to celebrate the success of the new Resident Pass. The pass offers residents one year unlimited entry to the Castle after paying just once for standard Castle admission.

During the competition period many local residents shared their best images of the Castle along with the hashtags #LoveColchesterCastle and #ResidentPass to be in with the chance of winning one of four Resident Passes.

Cllr Tim Young, Deputy Leader of the Council and Portfolio Holder for Business and Culture said: “Along with Colchester Museums Manager, Tom Hodgson, I was privileged to select four lucky winners. We were stunned at the huge variety of photographs and how the Castle has provided the backdrop to many happy memories for locals. From parents sharing tender moments of their children, to the sheer majesty of the building – the competition has proved that local people really do #LoveColchesterCastle.

“The four winning images captured the heart and soul of the Castle throughout the seasons. I hope the winners enjoy their year’s free entry and spread the word to help ensure the Castle is preserved for many generations to come, making a Better Colchester for everyone.”
