Parliamentary Constituencies in the Colchester City Council Area

The Colchester City Council area comprises three different Parliamentary constituencies.

  1. Colchester - administered solely by Colchester City Council
  2. Harwich and North Essex - administered by Tendring District Council
  3. Witham - administered by Braintree District Council

If you are a resident anywhere in the Colchester City Council area, for registration matters including registering to vote or applying for a postal or proxy vote, you will need to contact Colchester City Council.

For all other matters pertaining to the election itself in that specific area, candidates, or voting on the day, contact the relevant authority.

The city wards that fall in each constituency area are listed below, following the review of Parliamentary constituencies in England which was concluded in 2023. This review as to account for changes in population. Learn more about these changes on the UK Parliament website.

Colchester constituency is administered solely by Colchester City Council and comprises the following Colchester City Council wards:

Berechurch, Castle, Greenstead, Highwoods, Lexden and Braiswick (part thereof)*, Mile End, New Town and Christ Church, Prettygate, Shrub End, St Anne’s and St John’s.

Harwich and North Essex constituency includes the following Colchester City Wards:

Lexden and Braiswick (part thereof)*, Mersea and Pyefleet, Old Heath and The Hythe, Rural North, Wivenhoe.

*The Lexden and Braiswick ward is split between Colchester constituency and Harwich and North Essex constituency. East Lexden, Trafalgar and Braiswick polling districts fall within the Colchester constituency. Aldham, Eight Ash Green, and West Bergholt polling districts fall within the Harwich and North Essex constituency.

Witham constituency includes the following Colchester City Wards:

Marks Tey and Layer, Stanway, Tiptree.
