Council building closures
Colchester City Council buildings have been closed to the public to help delay the spread of coronavirus. This includes:
- Leisure World sites
- Charter Hall
- Town Hall
- Colchester Castle
- Hollytrees Museum
- Natural History Museum
- Visitor Information Centre
- High Woods Country Park Visitor Centre
Membership charges for Leisure World will be frozen during this period.
Other closures include:
- Colchester Charter Market
- Beach huts
- All playgrounds and open gyms across the city
- Sports grounds
Our allotments, parks, public spaces are open as usual, but Castle Park will have restricted opening hours and only one toilet block will be open.
Essex recycling centre closures
All recycling centres in Essex are closed until further notice. If you were planning to visit a recycling centre, please safely store the items you were planning to take until they are reopened.
Essex library closures
The Town Centre library, mobile libraries and the Community Hub are closed until further notice.
All loans will be extended, overdue charges will be waived, and reservations suspended.
The eLibrary service will continue to be available 24/7.

Book of Remembrance room and the Prayer Room closures
Funerals, both cremations services and burials, are still taking place, but we will be asking Funeral Directors to ensure only close family attend, as few as possible, but up to a maximum of 25.
In addition, we are asking people to observe the Government guidelines by social distancing to 2 metres apart in the chapel or at the graveside.
The Book of Remembrance room and the Prayer Room are also closed until further notice.
