Housing Benefit Overpayment Direct Debit

What you will need to complete this form

The reference number on the top right hand side of your letter
The overpayment invoice number
The date the payment is collected every month and the month you would like to start the payments
The instalment amount you would like to pay every month
Your bank details

This form will take approximately 5 minutes to complete

Please note that if you are still receiving Housing Benefit we will recover the overpayment by deducting a set amount each week from the amount you receive until you have cleared the overpayment. You do not need to fill in this form if this is the case.

If your Housing Benefit is paid directly to your landlord, you will need to pay extra rent to your landlord to make up the difference. Please discuss this with your landlord.

If you are not in receipt of Housing Benefit, we may apply for deductions from other benefits you receive.

If the overpayment is for Local Council Tax Support, we will automatically add the amount of the overpayment to your Council Tax account.

If you are not in receipt of any benefits, we will issue an invoice.

Confirmation

All the normal Direct Debit safeguards and guarantees apply when you set up an instruction online. No changes in the amount, date or frequency of a payment can be made without notifying you at least 7 working days in advance of your account being debited. In the event of any error, you are entitled to an immediate refund from your Bank or Building Society. You have the right to cancel a Direct Debit Instruction at any time simply by writing to your Bank or Building Society, and sending a copy of the letter to us.

In order to set up or amend your Direct Debit on-line you need to be able to confirm the following:

I am the named account holder of the bank account to be debited.
No other signature apart from my own is required to authorise the setting up of Direct Debits on this account.

I confirm that I meet the conditions and am able to set up a Direct Debit
