The public has a general right of access to any information the Council holds, with some exemptions.

Colchester Borough Council is required by law to protect the public funds it administers. It may share information provided to it with other bodies responsible for auditing or administering public funds, in order to prevent and detect fraud.
The Environmental Information Regulations work in a similar way to the Freedom of Information Act, creating a general right of access to environmental information held by the Council.
Under the Data Protection Act 2018 everyone has a right to see the information held about them by organisations including the Council.
