How long have you worked for the Council?

I have worked for the council for 34 years.

Why did you choose to work for the Council?

I can’t remember, that was 34 years ago! It was however my first job after finishing at Stanway School.

Describe what you do in 100 words?

As part of the Senior Leadership Team, I work alongside colleagues and Councillors on strategic, corporate and operational issues. I lead fabulous teams to support our communities with things like digital equality, maximizing income, employment advice, resettlement, increasing physical activity and many more things. I work with Health colleagues and system partners to try and reduce inequalities in Colchester and increase healthy life expectancy. I also lead Bereavement Service who deliver professional and sensitive services to our residents in difficult times.

What do you enjoy most about your role?

Working with fabulous people and teams.

Throughout your career at the Council, what has been your most rewarding moment?

Watching others learn, develop, and be the best versions of themselves.

What would you say to someone thinking about a career at the Council?

It is an amazing place to work, with so many opportunities to learn new skills and experience a variety of careers. I have been so lucky to work in so many areas in the Council and progress. I would never have had the same opportunities anywhere else.

Describe the Council in one word.

Ambitious
