Elfreda House

Elfreda House is being redeveloped. The existing Elfreda House facility, which was more than 55 years old, has now been demolished to be replaced by fantastic, newly designed sheltered accommodation.

The replacement building will include 36 self-contained one- and two-bedroom flats, four more than previously available, each with self-contained bathrooms, kitchens and living room.

The redevelopment also includes shared communal spaces where residents can socialise, as well as being accessible for all residents with lifts to the upper floors of the 3-storey building.

The new development will ensure that Elfreda House is fit for purpose to meet the needs of its residents for the future.

Podcast: Elfreda House

Councillor Andrew Ellis sits down with Dirk Paterson, Chair of Colchester Borough Homes and Philip Sullivan, CEO at Colchester Borough Homes, to chat about the Elfreda House redevelopment.

They discuss the development, why it’s so important for Colchester to invest in this and other housing schemes and how it links to the wider Updating Colchester projects.
