Background

There will be elections across all 17 city wards in Colchester on Thursday 2 May 2024. One of the three ward councillor seats in every ward will be up for election, as the city elects by thirds.

Following the resignation of Molly Bloomfield as a councillor for Greenstead Ward, there will be a second seat up for election in the Greenstead Ward as the seat she occupied was scheduled to be elected to in 2024.

Who can I vote for?

The details of all nominated candidates will be available on the Statement of Persons Nominated, which will be published at the close of play on Friday 5 April. 

In the build up to the election, information about prospective candidates may be available online.

Candidate information

Important information and guidance for candidates considering standing for election is available on the Electoral Commission's website.

Any prospective candidate should email elections@colchester.gov.uk to arrange an appointment to submit their nomination. It is also preferable for a draft copy of nominations to be submitted via email before formal submission of any nominations. 

Completed nomination forms must be submitted in person. They must be submitted to the Deputy Returning Officer at Colchester Town Hall, High Street, Colchester CO1 1PJ. They must be submitted between the hours of 10am and 4pm from Monday 25 March until close of nominations at 4pm on Friday 5 April.
