Providing sustainable waste management for Colchester

Our recycling service

The Council offers a kerbside recycling collection service and comprehensive details of the materials collected, recycling calendars and more can be found on our Recycling and Rubbish section. We also offer a trade waste service for businesses to dispose and recycle their waste.

We are also reducing the number of single-use plastics used within our buildings and for our services. For example, five drinking water fountains were installed on the High Street, in Castle Park and other locations, which are available for all to use to refill reusable water bottles.

Local environmental charities

There are also a variety of materials that we do not collect through our kerbside recycling collection service but can be recycled elsewhere. For example, we support En-Form, a local environment charity, who are collecting waste materials to send off to Terracycle, an organisation that specialises in recycling materials/items that are difficult to recycle.

These include items such as toothpaste tubes, crisp packets, sweet wrappers and more. Find out more about Terracycle here, including the items they collect and your nearest collection point.
