Cost of living support

Colchester Borough Council is providing support for residents facing the cost of living crisis.

Household Support Fund

The Household Support Fund (HSF) has been created to help people experiencing financial hardship pay for food and household energy bills.

Colchester Council has been given funding by Essex County Council to support Pension Age households in the Borough. If you are eligible, you will receive a one-off payment of £80, paid directly into your bank account.

Who is eligible

  • You live in the Colchester Borough.
  • You are State Pension age, or due to reach State Pension age by 30 September 2022.
  • No other person under the age of 19 (born after 30 September 2003) lives with you.
  • You are receiving one of the following:
    • Housing Benefit
    • Local Council Tax Support
    • Pension Credit
    • Employment Support Allowance (ESA)
    • Job Seekers Allowance (JSA)
    • Income Support
    • Universal Credit

Before you apply

You will need:
  • your Council Tax reference (if you have one)
  • a digital copy of a bank statement which clearly shows your name, address, name of your bank, account number and sort-code
The application form is also being used for the Council Tax Energy Rebate. If you are also eligible for the Council Tax Rebate payment, we will process this alongside your application for the Household Support Fund. 

All applications must be submitted by 09 September 2022.
