Colchester Borough Council is providing support for residents facing the cost of living crisis. 

Council Tax bands E-H

Council Tax Rebate Discretionary Scheme 

The Council’s Discretionary Council Tax Rebate Scheme will provide £150 payments to residents in Council Tax bands E-H, who are suffering from financial hardship as a result of the increased energy costs. You will need to make an application to be considered for this scheme.
 
You will be eligible if:

  • You were resident and liable to pay Council Tax in a property on 1st April 2022 and either:
    • You are in Council Tax Bands E-H and are able to evidence financial hardship
    • You are in Council Tax Bands E-H and are in receipt of LCTS
  • The property is your sole or main residence
  • You do not have savings or capital of £6,000 or more
 
The following properties will not qualify for this scheme:
  • Unoccupied properties and second homes
  • Properties designated as a House in Multiple Occupation for Council Tax Purposes
  • Properties where the liable payer is a business/corporate body

 
Please apply by the 3rd July 2022. The scheme has a limited amount of funding and will only run until all the money has been distributed.
