Cost of living support
Colchester City Council is providing support for residents facing the cost of living crisis.
The Household Support Fund may be available to those who require assistance with essential costs during periods specified by Essex County Council. For more information about how the fund works, please see the Household Support Fund page.
If you apply, we will need to process your personal data to assess whether you are eligible to receive financial support, and if so, to provide a payment to you. This Privacy Notice sets out what personal data we will use, how we will use it, and why we need to, when an applicant applies for this support.
We collect and process the personal data that you provide to us when completing your application for a household support fund payment, which may include:
Information about your application may be shared with other Colchester City Council service areas and Essex County Council for the prevention and detection of fraud.
We will not share this data with other organisations or individuals outside of Colchester City Council for any other purpose.
We will carry out checks with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), for verification purposes during your application.
We must have a lawful basis to process your personal data. Our lawful basis in the processing that we’ll undertake in assessing your eligibility for, and in making any household support fund payment to you, is based on a legal obligation.
Colchester City Council are the data controller for the purposes of assessing eligibility, administering and making payments under the Household Support Fund scheme.
We will only keep your personal data for as long as it is needed for audit and payment purposes. This will be no longer than 2 years following your application.
We take the confidentiality of personal information very seriously and use recognised security and access controls to protect your information from unauthorised access, loss, misuse, alteration or corruption. We have procedures and processes in place to ensure that your personal information is managed appropriately.
We will continually review and update this privacy notice to reflect changes in our services and feedback from service users, as well as to comply with changes in the law. When such changes occur, we will revise the “last updated” date at the bottom of this notice.
