Town Police Clauses Act 1847 Section 21

Whereas the Colchester City Council ('the council') is satisfied that vehicular traffic, including pedal cycles, on the streets set out in the schedule to this order, should be prohibited during the hours specified in the schedule to this order by reason that such streets will be thronged and liable to be obstructed.

And whereas the said council are empowered by Section 21 of the Town Police Clauses Act 1847 to make an order prohibiting the use of the streets by all classes of vehicles.

Now therefore in exercise of the powers conferred by the Town Police Clauses Act 1847, Section 21 and following consultations with Essex Police, we the said council, do hereby order that the use of the streets as set out in the schedule to this order by vehicular traffic, including pedal cycles, be prohibited on the days and during the hours specified in the said schedule.

Provided always that the definition of vehicular traffic shall not include emergency vehicles and traffic requiring access to property in the streets as specified in the said schedule.

The common seal of the Colchester City Council was hereunto affixed this 18 day of July 2025 in the presence of Andrew Weavers.
