On Sunday 11 September 2022, crowds gathered at the Town Hall as the Mayor of Colchester, Cllr Tim Young, read the Proclamation of the accession of King Charles III. This followed the reading of the Principal Proclamation of the new king, which took place at a meeting of the Accession Council at St James’s Palace and a 21-gun salute in Lower Castle Park on Saturday 10 September.
