Hypnotism
Under the Hypnotism Act 1952, you must have a permit to stage a public performance of hypnotism for entertainment.
When you need a permit
You need a permit if you are:
- performing hypnotism in public for entertainment (live or broadcast)
- using hypnotism as part of a show or demonstration where the public is present
It is illegal to hypnotise anyone under 18 during a public performance.
When you do not need a permit
You do not need a permit if:
- the hypnotism is for scientific research or a medical demonstration
- you are only hypnotising yourself
Apply for a permit
- Applications must be made at least 28 days before the performance.
