Gambling and lotteries

Under the Gambling Act 2005, licences are required by anyone arranging any of the following activities:

  • betting
  • bingo
  • casino gaming
  • prize gaming (including poker)
  • use of gaming machines
  • lotteries and raffles

The National Lottery and spread betting are not licensed by the council but are regulated under different legislation.

The council issues licences, permits and notices to authorise gambling activities within its area.

Further information, in addition to that provided on the council’s website, can be found on the Gambling Commission website.
