House to house collections

You will need to apply for a house to house collection licence to collect money or goods, which you later sell, for charitable purposes from people’s homes.

Organisations that hold a National Exemption Order do not need to apply for a licence but must inform us of the dates and areas of any planned collections.

What you need to know before you apply

  • Applications must be submitted at least 28 days before the planned collection and not more than 6 months in advance.
  • Applications for licences relating to emergency disasters will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  • Applications can be made for the entire City or parts of the City.
  • Charities are allowed one collection per quarter.
  • Collections can only last for a week.
  • Collections can only take place between 9am and 7pm.
  • Evidence of public liability insurance cover of £5million must be provided with the application.
