Training and exhibiting animals

Under the LAIA Regulations 2018, a licence is required if you invite paying or non-paying people into your animal’s environment or take animals elsewhere to show to the public.

This includes animal cafes, farms open to the public, therapy farms, donkey rides, equine parties, and similar activities.

Always consider the Five Welfare Needs:

  • a suitable environment
  • a suitable diet
  • the ability to exhibit normal behaviour patterns
  • suitable housing for the animal’s needs
  • protection from pain, suffering, injury, and disease

For more information or to discuss your business, contact the animal licensing officer at Food.team@Colchester.gov.uk.
