Selling animals as pets
A licence is required by law if you sell or advertise the sale of any vertebrate animals (excluding dogs) and earn over £1,000 per year (net). This includes species such as cats, rabbits, rodents, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.
There are specific guidelines for each species, including minimum cage and environment sizes for mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish.
You must read the full guidance before starting a business or preparing to sell animals.
An inspection is required both at the time of application and during the licence period.
