Colchester City Council warmly congratulates Ipswich Town Women on their outstanding 8-0 victory over Cheltenham Town on 27 April 2025, securing promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship. This incredible achievement is a reflection of the hard work, talent, and determination shown by everyone at the Club.

Through Leisure World, Colchester City Council is proud to support grassroots and community sport, currently sponsoring three local football teams. Our commitment is to provide opportunities from foundation level through to elite pathways, helping to increase community participation, improve wellbeing, and promote active lifestyles across all ages and abilities.

The success of Ipswich Town Women is also a powerful reminder of the importance of encouraging young women to participate in sports. Sports help to develop not just physical strength but also vital life skills such as confidence, teamwork, and resilience. By providing young women with opportunities to engage in sport, we can empower them, foster equality, and inspire future generations of female athletes.

Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Waste, Neighbourhoods and Leisure at Colchester City Council said: “We are incredibly proud of Ipswich Town Women's achievement and are thrilled to support them through Leisure World. This victory not only highlights the talent within our local communities but also reinforces the importance of investing in sport for all. We remain committed to promoting wellbeing, healthy living, and community engagement through sport at every level.”

The success of Ipswich Town Women demonstrates the powerful role that sport and exercise play in building healthier, more connected communities. By continuing to invest in local sport and wellbeing initiatives, Leisure World remains dedicated to inspiring individuals, supporting future athletes, and strengthening community engagement.

We offer our sincere congratulations once again to Ipswich Town Women on their historic success and look forward to seeing their continued achievements.
