Free Household Drop Off Service 2024

PUBLISHED: 18 March 2024

Date issued: 18 March 2024

On 6 April Colchester City Council’s seasonal Saturday Household Drop-Off Service will restart, running until August 2024.

This year, the drop-off service will be visiting 24 locations across the city, picking up small, broken, or unwanted household items that are either not recyclable or not collected as part of their kerbside collection. Most locations will be visited more than once, offering 52 opportunities to residents to dispose of these items.

Residents are advised to visit the Council’s website and look up when and where their nearest drop-off service is being held.

Items that won't be accepted are items collected by our recycling and rubbish collection crews, large loads, fridges, freezers or other electrical goods, hazardous waste such as asbestos, batteries, liquids or gas bottles or business waste.

Councillor Martin Goss, Colchester City Council’s Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services and Waste, said: “We know it’s not always easy for households to dispose of items not collected at the kerbside, and over the next five months we’ll be visiting 24 different locations in the city to help households dispose of these items locally and responsibly”.

Residents can find out when and where this service will be taking place, as well as items that can and can’t be dropped off (including what to do with these items) by visiting this page.
