A Community Day of Action for Greenstead

PUBLISHED: 7 February 2023

A Community Day of Action is coming to Greenstead!

The event, which takes place on Monday, 13 February, is the sixth in a string of Community Days of Action to be held across the city.

The Greenstead Community Day of Action aims to make improvements to the locality through a range of activities including an area-wide litter pick; graffiti removal; a drop-off service for large household waste items not usually collected at the kerbside; installation of a Safer Streets-funded CCTV camera at a fly-tipping hotspot; skatepark activities at Hickory Avenue open space featuring professional skateboarders, and more – and residents are invited to get involved and make a difference!

Cllr Martin Goss, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Services & Waste, said: “The Community Day of Action is a great opportunity for local people to feel empowered to tackle issues that matter to them and deliver noticeable improvements to their neighbourhood, where they're needed most.
“I would urge groups and volunteers to get involved and help make a real difference to their area. If you live in Greenstead and have some spare time, then why not come along and join in. It’s an event that can really bring the community together.

Cllr Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Communities and Housing and Greenstead Ward councillor, added: “Community Days of Action show what a galvanising force they can be for the communities involved. By working alongside our partners and enthusiastic groups and volunteers from the area, we can help deliver long-lasting improvements and inspire many more people to have pride in where they live.

“We are looking forward to a great day, which is going to make a real difference to the community.”
The Greenstead Community Day of Action, which will be based at Greenstead Community Centre, takes place between 10am and 2pm. Everyone is welcome to participate and litter picking kits will also be provided.

Representatives from the Essex Police fraud prevention team, Essex Fire and Rescue Service, NHS, Colchester Foodbank, uniform exchange and many more partner agencies will join Colchester City Council’s Neighbourhood Service team to support the event and offer advice.
