New Colchester Borough Council Leader and cabinet agreed

The new Leader and cabinet for Colchester Borough Council have been agreed at today’s (Wednesday) Full Council.

Following the borough’s local election results on 6 May, the council’s Conservative and Highwoods Independent groups have joined together to form a new administration for the coming year.

Councillor Paul Dundas (Conservative) will lead a six strong cabinet with Councillor Sue Lissimore becoming the council’s new Deputy Leader.

The make up of the council’s new cabinet is: 

•    Leader & Strategy - Cllr Paul Dundas (Conservative)
•    Deputy Leader & Resources - Cllr Sue Lissimore (Conservative)
•    Economy, Business & Heritage - Cllr Darius Laws (Conservative)
•    Communities - Cllr Beverley Oxford (Highwoods Independent)
•    Housing & Planning - Cllr Andrew Ellis (Conservative)
•    Environment & Sustainability - Cllr Simon Crow (Conservative)

Leader of the council, Cllr Paul Dundas, said: “It is truly an honour to serve this great borough as the Leader of the council. 

“While we still have the major implications of the pandemic and the national lockdown to contend with, I look forward to driving forward our commitments over the coming year for the benefit for our residents, businesses and the borough as a whole.”

The breakdown of the 51 seats on Colchester Borough Council following the local elections is: 

Conservatives – 23
Liberal Democrats – 12
Labour – 11
Highwoods Independent Group – 3 
Green – 2
