Colchester Celebrates English Tourism Week with welcome back film

PUBLISHED: 21 May 2021

This May, Colchester joins tourist destinations up and down the country by marking the start of English Tourism Week. The week of national celebrations takes place from the 22-31 May, recognising England’s diverse and vibrant tourism industry at a time when the latter is looking to recover from the impact of Covid-19.

As restrictions begin to lift and it has become safe to do so, the team at Visit Colchester are ramping up the promotion of the historic Borough of Colchester and all it has to offer.

To attract new visitors, and welcome back those returning to the area again, Visit Colchester has produced a short film showcasing Colchester’s unique heritage, and the glorious countryside and coast that make up the surrounding Borough.

From town centre tourism treasures like Colchester Castle, the Roman Walls and St Botolph’s Priory to well-loved visitor destinations such as Mersea Island and the Dedham Vale (affectionately known as Constable Country) the Colchester area has a huge amount to offer, for a day trip or an extended break.

Visitors can also partake of a world class cultural offer this summer, from a diverse programme celebrating the tenth anniversary of the landmark Firstsite gallery, to the reopening of The Mercury Theatre in June following a multi-million-pound redevelopment.

Councilor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of the Council, said: “To celebrate the start of the official tourism season we invite you to discover Colchester’s Beautiful Borough this summer. Take a moment, sit back, and watch Colchester’s beautiful borough come to life. Watch it here
