Black bag and wheelie bin instructions

Here is what you need to do to ensure that our crews can always collect your waste.

  • Black bag instructions
  • Wheeled bin instructions

We have noticed that some households place out more than their three 60-litre black bag allowance on a Blue Week or sometimes forget to check that their wheeled bin lids are firmly shut.

Following the instructions below will ensure that we can collect your waste and deliver an efficient service across the borough.

Black bags

  • Unless you have an exemption, you should only put out a maximum of 3 x 60-litre black bags on your Blue Week collection day.

  • Our crews will place a sticker on any excess bags to let you know that the limit has been exceeded.
  • Due to the demands on our service, we will not be able to return to collect any excess waste left by our crews.
  • If you do have any excess waste, this can be taken to your nearest recycling centre

Rubbish collection exemption arrangements will continue as usual.

You can find more information on this instruction by reading our three black bags per household FAQs

Wheeled bins

  • Please make sure that the lids on wheeled bins are always fully closed to enable collection. If they are partially open, our crews will not be able to safely move and empty them.

  • Keeping bin lids shut is crucial to the health and safety of your neighbourhood crew and to ensure the vehicle equipment is not overloaded.
  • Customers in wheeled bin areas who have an exemption will be provided with a larger bin and/or a second bin.
  • Due to the demands on our service, we will not be able to return to collect any excess waste left by our crews.
  • If you do have any excess waste, this can be taken to your nearest recycling centre

Rubbish collection exemption arrangements will continue as usual.
