The Census exists to take an accurate count of the population at one single point in time so that we can target our service provision and ensure that our funding from the government is appropriate.  It has occurred every 10 years in England and Wales since 1801, aside from 1941 when we were at war.  The last Census was carried out on 27 March 2011.
