What is a personal search? 

A personal search is a search of the Local Land Charges Register and can be made by anyone but does not bear the official stamp of Colchester Borough Council and is therefore not an official local land charge search.

We are unable to validate any information found during a personal search and we are also unable to discuss the information with you.

How to request a personal search

Send the following information to us by email to EIR@colchester.gov.uk and we will respond within 20 working days:

  • A plan of the site (your search cannot be completed without this)
  • Address/description of the land
  • Your reference
