Colchester Borough Council is asking residents for their views on designs for an exciting new community centre in north Colchester.
The proposed St. Mark’s Community Centre would be based at the former site of Colchester Rugby Club in Mill Road.
The designs have been drawn up by project architects Barefoot and Gilles and feature a new building, which will be able to offer community groups a host of new facilities and more opportunities for local people.
The council would like to hear the views of residents and community stakeholders on these proposals. An online webinar will be held on Tuesday 7 September 2021 at 6.30pm, where the project’s designers, trustees and local councillors will present the plans and answer questions on the initial ideas. Following the webinar, an online survey will run from Tuesday 7 September until Tuesday 5 October 2021.
Councillor Beverley Oxford, Portfolio Holder for Communities said: “The new community centre presents a real opportunity to deliver more facilities and opportunities for residents. It’s crucial for us to get feedback from local people on these plans, to understand how we can make sure any facility developed has their needs in mind.
“I would encourage people to join the online webinar to find out more, we would really appreciate as many people filling out the online survey as possible.”
The development is being managed by Colchester Amphora Trading Ltd, the council’s commercial trading arm, as part of the council’s wider work in developing the Northern Gateway vision. The aspiration is to create a place where local people and visitors can live, work, relax and shape healthy, active lifestyles for themselves and their families.
Councillor Sue Lissimore, Portfolio Holder for Resources added: “This is a fantastic opportunity for residents to have their say on a significant investment in local resources. The development of a new community centre will have a positive impact on the local community and I look forward to hearing feedback on these proposals.”
