Greenstead residents encouraged to have their say on the community’s new multiuse hub

PUBLISHED: 14 November 2023

Residents of Greenstead are invited to make their voices heard on a brand-new multiuse community hub, an initiative made possible by the £18.2 million Town Deal Funding awarded to Colchester by the government in August 2022.

The Heart of Greenstead Project is designed to offer residents a range of services and amenities, including an upgraded community centre, a new doctor's surgery and pharmacy, a modern library, housing office, a pre-school, a community café and flexible community space.

Colchester City Council is working with Community360 (C360) and the NHS Suffolk and North East Essex Integrated Care Board (SNEE ICB) to coordinate the engagement and are encouraging residents to complete a survey online or in person at one of their engagement events.

Cllr Sommers, portfolio holder for Communities at Colchester City Council said: “In collaboration with our valued partners and the Greenstead community, we're dedicated to working hand in hand, ensuring that residents’ lives are improved, and the neighbourhood thrives. Together, we’re creating a stronger, more vibrant community where local voices and aspirations play a central role in shaping a better future for Greenstead.”

Tracy Rudling, CEO at Community360, said: “I would urge anyone living in Greenstead to complete the survey. Community engagement is vital to the success of the project. This is your chance to help shape and create an exciting new multiuse hub which will enhance and better support residents’ living in Greenstead.”

Nicky Young, Practice Manager, Hawthorn Surgery, said: “I and my colleagues at the Hawthorn Surgery believe our practice’s move to a new building close-by will improve the way we are able to provide services to local people and the community of Greenstead we serve. While the move will not enable us to increase the number of doctors we have, it will allow us to bring in a mental health clinic, physiotherapy services and other services our patients need within one clinical setting. I would encourage as many residents as possible to share their experiences by completing the survey.”

C360 is also co-ordinating activities and facilitating roles for residents as Heart of Greenstead ambassadors, to ensure that local voices are heard, and have an active role in the development of the proposed improvements.
