Cost of living support
Colchester Borough Council is providing support for residents facing the cost of living crisis.
With the school half term holidays on the horizon, consider a family day out to Colchester Castle Museum.
The Castle Museum is one of the East of England’s most popular tourist destinations, packed full of nationally important treasures. With a heritage dating back over 2,000 years, visitors today will find a modern spacious museum where they can discover the famous Colchester Vase, the Colchester Mercury, glittering Roman coins and fun exhibits for all ages, including a Roman chariot racing game and tablet hire.
Over the half term holidays (31 May-6 June), families are invited to see if they can beat the Castle team's newest member, the Jolly Jester, in a new interactive trail!
The trail costs just £5, after Castle entry, and the price includes a goody bag for all those that take part. Can you solve the clues, reveal the riddles and join the friendly museum team as they celebrate all things funny? You'll even get a chance to meet the friendly Jester! From Roman donkey hats to learning more about the role of medieval Jesters, this fun and interactive trail will lead to a hilarious conclusion, plus you’ll learn some fun history facts too!
Councillor Julie Young, Portfolio Holder for Culture and Performance and Deputy Leader of Colchester Borough Council, said: “Everyone loves a giggle now and again, and we could argue that this is needed now more than ever with everything that’s been happening in the world. So, we invite you to pay a visit to Colchester Castle between the 31 May – 6 June, discover more about Colchester’s historic past, solve some riddles and more importantly all have a little giggle with the Castle’s Jolly Jester!”
Rest assured, visits to Colchester Castle are fully Covid safe and social distancing measures will be in place throughout the Castle, along with sanitising stations. Please book a timed entry slot by calling 01206 282939.
Colchester Museums are custodians of nationally important artefacts and strive to ensure the public can access these at all times. By visiting Colchester Castle, you are helping preserve Colchester’s rich heritage for future generations.
